Lent: 40 Days of Self Improvement

lent 2019

We’re back for another Lenten season. As a reminder, this is a period in time where you’re meant to make changes in your life to improve yourself and grow deeper into your faith.

Lent is starting a few weeks later this year, so I had time to think, but it still managed to creep up on me. This year, I’m combining a few of the things I’ve done in the past.

  1. No unnecessary spending. As you guys know, I’m trying to buy a house this year. I’ve reached my down payment goal, but it’s always nice to have a bit more. Plus, I have a few things I’ll want to buy for the house once I find one.
  2. Daily bible. You’re obviously supposed to work on your faith during Lent, so I’m going to implement daily bible time. It’s one of my goals for the whole year, so I’ll treat it as a jumpstart.
  3. Journal weekly. I was pretty good about writing things down in 2018. However, I’ve gotten away from that, and I have a lot of feelings brewing. I just need to articulate them sometimes.
  4. Gym/workout 3x/week. I have a gym membership that I’ve hardly used recently. I need to both optimize the money being spent, and get back into healthy habits.

I’m looking forward to a positive Lent. My life has gotten away from me a little bit in the last couple of months, so I’m ready to get back to me. These goals are a perfect combination of both physical and mental benefit.

What do you do for Lent? Do you find that you give something up, or add something to your life to make yourself a bit better?
