Adventure: Ellijay, GA

My parents have been talking about going to Ellijay for months. They’ve been a few times with my sister or some family friends, and they FINALLY took me this past weekend. It’s super adorable for a small town, and I would definitely recommend it.

Our first stop was at the Panorama Orchards store. A local orchard makes all of these different things. I had no earthly idea how many things you could do with apples! Salsa, relish, butter, dried…my word. It was impressive. My parents both got a little “fried pie”…my mom said the cherry one was the best thing she’s ever eaten (Sorry, Italy.).

This was my haul. I’m a big fan of corn salsa. The apple salsa was so good! They had a little tasting area, and I almost took the jar. If you’re in a slump for an appetizer or party food, get some fig spread and cream cheese (or goat cheese). It’s so good! I’ve been making stir fry more, so I’m excited to try the glaze. Finally…the lavender soap. I have lavender everything in my home, so it was only time to get the soap.

After Panorama Orchards, we went to lunch in downtown Ellijay. It was so adorable. The lunch place was tasty, and the epitome of lunch: sandwiches, soup, salads, etc. I believe it was called Cantaberry. I was really hungry, so I don’t have a picture of what I ate. However, my turkey/bacon/avocado wrap was delicious.

We walked around some of the shops once our bellies were full. Let me tell you, if you’re in the market for antiques, go to Ellijay! There were so many little antique stores. They all started to run together. My favorite place, though, was the Blue Ridge Olive Oil Company.

The ladies there were so nice! There were so many different options. Some darn family was posted up in front of most of the olive oils, but the vinegars were majestic. I can finally say that I own a white balsamic vinegar. It was the first one I tasted when I walked in the door, and it was SO GOOD. Apparently it pairs well with my blood orange olive oil.

Our final stop of the day, and my personal favorite, was Engelheim Vineyards. From a glance, it looks like a fairly small vineyard. It’s been around since 2009, I believe. It was kind of full, so we didn’t have too much of a chance for me to talk to the owners. However, they had a muscadine blackberry wine…oh my word. I took one sip and immediately knew I had to bring a bottle home. Ironically, the wine didn’t come from that winery. My mom even drank a glass of red!

Currahee Vineyard is actually in Toccoa, GA. They also do online orders, so I’m about to be their biggest customer! I mean, it’s blackberry wine, MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE.

All in all, Ellijay made for a lovely day. Only about 45 minutes from my parents’ house, I look forward to many more trips up there.
