Gift Guide for the New Homeowner in Your Life

new homeowner

In case you didn’t know, I bought a house this year! I tried documenting some of my woes along the way, so go ahead and catch up. As the holidays approach, I’ve had a hard time separating things I’d like for my house with things I’d like for myself. Part of my identity now is “homeowner,” so really, it’s all one in the same.

If you know a new homeowner, it can be difficult to find the perfect gift for them, but I have some ideas to help get you started.

Something green.

More specifically, something green and alive. It’s a wonder what a difference a green plant can make in a home. I added one (her name is Demeter) to my bedroom, and I love it. Even the worst of green thumbs can keep a few plants alive. My sister falls into this category and managed to keep one alive for multiple months.

A front door mat.

There are so many different kinds of mats! And so many different stores where you can shop. Amazon, Hobby Lobby, Target, At Home…the list goes on. Honestly, if I picked up every front door mat I fell in love with, I’d have enough to have a new one every month of the year.

Books

Honestly, would it even be a gift guide if I didn’t find some way to work books into the equation? I’m telling you, there is nothing better than kicking back on your couch, reading a book, IN YOUR OWN HOME. Check my book reviews for a ton of recommendations, or follow my Bookstagram for more inspiration.

The greatest gift of all…

Your time! It doesn’t need to be a housewarming party or anything, but spend some time with your new homeowner! It’s a great excuse for them to break in the house and cook you dinner or just put on their hostess pants. Chances are, they’re pretty excited about the house, but don’t want to make too big of a deal about it.
