It’s two common guilty pleasures: pizza and tacos. It’s why there’s “Taco Tuesday” and “pizza parties”. Why not combine both?! I saw Taco Pizza all over Pinterest and was intrigued. There are a few different ways to do it, everywhere from actual pizza crust to tortillas. You can opt for a salsa base with taco cheese and a ton of toppings. I opted to go a bit simpler with my recipe and the ingredients I had on hand.
- crescent roll dough
- black beans
- bell peppers
- shredded cheese
- taco seasoning
- sour cream
Essentially, I just made my Mexican Dump dinner for the topping on my taco pizza. Combine some onion, peppers, corn, black beans, etc. in a frying pan. Add some taco seasoning (Or seasoning of your choice. Think paprika and chili powder.). You can brown some meat too! Turkey or beef, whatever you’d like.
Roll out the crescent roll dough on a pan. I was only cooking for myself, so I made four “crusts”. You just take two of the triangles, and merge the seam so you have four small rectangles. This is also a good way if you want your kids to make their own pizza or have picky eaters. Bake your “crusts” according to the directions on the package.
After taking the crusts out of the oven, turn the oven off, but keep the door closed. Choose your base! I’ve seen some use sour cream or salsa. I used some cheese dip. Then, top with your toppings of choice. I added the Dump from my pan and some shredded cheese. Then, I stuck it back in the oven for a few minutes to melt the cheese (which is also why I didn’t pick a sour cream base). After a couple of minutes, take it out of the oven and top with your cold/fresh ingredients!
Taco Pizza is a super easy meal that’s great for families. You can make it in one large pan pizza to feed the family, or turn it into something to bring everyone together after a long day. I even used the leftover crusts I had just to make a small cheese pizza for lunch the next day.
