Perfect Beach Reads for Your Next Vacation

Just picture it:

You’re in a beach chair, listening to the waves crash on the shore. There’s an ice cold beverage next to you, and you’ve got the best book in your lap.

What are you reading?

Now, my recommendations for beach reads are surprisingly similar to those books I love to share with people. I’m a creature of habit, I guess. Who says you can only read certain types of books when you’re on vacation anyway? With that being said, here are your perfect beach reads, fit for any location.

{Fiction}

Big Little Lies – This was a super quick read. Don’t binge watch it on HBO…read it!

The Good Girl – Another book that I read quickly. It ends with a plot twist that I didn’t even see coming!

The Woman in the Window – Have I raved enough about this? A girl at work ended up reading it and was telling me how much she loved it.

Gone Girl – An “oldie”, I know. This may not be the hot new read this summer, but it’s still an amazing read. While you’re at it, read Sharp Objects or Dark Places, both also by Gillian Flynn.

In A Dark, Dark Wood – Honestly, you could pick up anything by Ruth Ware and it would make for an amazing beach read.

Where the Crawdads Sing – Yes, this book was 100% worth the hype. If you haven’t read it yet, it should absolutely be your next beach read.

The Shoemaker’s Wife – This is just a beautiful read. No twist or psychological nonsense…just a beautiful story.

The Song of Achilles – If you’re a fan of mythology, you’ll love this book. Madeline Miller also wrote Circe which is a good addition to this list, but I did prefer The Song of Achilles.

{Non-Fiction}

Wild – My mom did not even a little bit like this book, but my sister and I both loved it. It’s a nice read if you’re up for a journey and the saddest page in literature that I have ever read.

Carry On, Warrior – Thank goodness for Glennon Doyle. There are some great lessons in this book. Again, if you’re looking for a pick-me-up. You can also opt for her newest book, Untamed.

Bossypants – This is one of my favorites! I gave my mom a copy before she went on a cruise, and she embarrassed my dad with how much she was laughing at the pool.

It’s Not Okay – I needed this book, even if I didn’t know it at the time. If you’re a fan of The Bachelorette, or Andi Dorfman in general, it’s an enlightening read.

You Are a Badass – This is one of the first books that really made me love reading nonfiction.

Becoming – I swear, Michelle Obama and I are the same. Minus our skin color and her amazing level of success, of course.

Girl, Stop Apologizing – This is a good one if you need a bit of a kick in the booty.

Wherever you go on your trip, even if it’s just down the street to the pool, grab one of these perfect beach reads to escape the real world for just a little while. That’s the wonder of books, right?
