The Perfect Mug Brownie

I have such a sweet tooth. Oh my word, I love dessert. Sometimes, I’ll bake a box of brownies in a cupcake pan, just to pace myself. I always end up throwing something away though. #singlegirlproblems Pinterest has swarmed all over with “Mug Brownie” recipes.

A huge part of me thinks it’s a farce. They show mugs overflowing with brownie. That’s way more than a serving. That’s honestly about 33% of a box mix that they’re putting in those mugs. I’ve also found a couple of recipes that are barely a bite of brownie! If I’m going through the hassle of making a brownie for one, I want to taste the brownie! Thus, I set out to develop the perfect mug brownie.

The Recipe: The Perfect Mug Brownie

Combine, in a small bowl or mug:

  • 6 tsp flour
  • 4 tsp sugar
  • 3t cocoa
  • Dash of vanilla
  • 2 tsp water
  • 2 tsp vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp milk

After you lightly stir, feel free to add some chocolate chips or walnuts (gross) or something. Then, microwave for 40 seconds. Top with ice cream and enjoy!

It’s super easy, and likely something you always have on hand in your home. For us ladies, it’s a super helpful recipe to have around whenever we’re craving something sweet. Honestly, it’s been a tremendous help because I don’t eat an entire box of brownies.

As a recommendations, I would opt for a more narrow-ish coffee mug. I’ve done it a couple of times with one of my massive mugs (that I love for coffee), but then the brownie gets too thin and dries out. Some examples of what works better:

I’ve topped the brownie both with regular ice cream, and lactose free (due to a shopper error where I didn’t read the label). However, I actually prefer the lactose free for this. The brownie is super rich, so the lactose free “lightens it up” a bit.

So, next time you’re craving something sweet, don’t bake the whole box. Use what you already have on hand, and bake the perfect mug brownie.
